Tight Jeans

Tight Jeans Tight Jeans is a light comedy short film directed by Destiny Ekaragha. 3 teenage black people are sitting on the wall waiting for their friend, they see someone that is wearing tight jeans and start talking about how hard it would be for them to wear the jeans and this sparks a hilarious debate about race and culture. I think what I will take to my screenplay is the comedy in the dialogue because my film will base kind of in the same community and because the comedy in this film is very good, in my opinion, I will use that idea on my one.

Echo

Echo, is a short film based on a teenage girl receiving phone calls repeatedly about how her father has had an accident which he is taken to hospital. She does this to scam people so she can get money from them. The writer James Walker, witnessed this event occurring in real life. The writer tells us that he saw a girl at one place crying about an accident then, saw the same girl at another place doing the same thing. He was so fascinated by it that he talked about it with the director and so the plot is based on a real life event. Editing in this short film is used very well. In the last phone call scene, because the audience has seen the calls a lot of times already it should kind of feel boring. However, the quick transition between shots kind of emphasis the girls haert and how quick its beating which increases tension. Also, the echoing of her voice repeats the emotional words which she says for e.g. My dads had an accident. Therefore, makes the audience feel emotion...

Screenplay Practice

Image
During our film classes, I created a screenplay for one short scene. Our teacher gave us a few scenarios that we had to pick from and I picked a scenario about revenge. This is the screenplay I created; This was my final piece of my practice screenplay and I handed this to my teacher. My teacher after reading this gave me some feedback; -It needs some amending and spelling check. -But, you have the beginning of a good idea, especially the surprising twist at the end. -It needs to be a couple of scenes longer to show more emotional development. -A nice creative idea though for this practice piece! good. Making this screenplay was quite fun which made me think of making a screenplay rather than filming for a short film however, I am still not sure what I'm going to make yet but, when I come back from summer holiday I will definitely know what I'm going to create.

Why shorts films are good for new filmmakers

Making short films could be easier than feature films as they would have a; lower budget, smaller crew, shorter time span and etc. Therefore, young filmmakers can easily make a short film which would show their creativity under a low budget and attract people willing to help them become more successful.

Definition

I think, the definition of a short film is "any film not long enough to be considered as a feature film".  the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits".

Short Films

I watched the films Baby Driver and The Fly. The reason why was that they had a similar plot at the start of both films which involved being the driver waiting in the car whilst the others rob the bank. The difference was that The Fly was a short film and it was based around the genre dark comedy whereas, because Baby Driver is a long film you dont really know the genre based on the first few minutes. Watching the short film gave me ideas on how the short films should be structured.
