Why shorts films are good for new filmmakers

Making short films could be easier than feature films as they would have a; lower budget, smaller crew, shorter time span and etc. Therefore, young filmmakers can easily make a short film which would show their creativity under a low budget and attract people willing to help them become more successful.

Definition

I think, the definition of a short film is "any film not long enough to be considered as a feature film".  the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits".

Short Films

I watched the films Baby Driver and The Fly. The reason why was that they had a similar plot at the start of both films which involved being the driver waiting in the car whilst the others rob the bank. The difference was that The Fly was a short film and it was based around the genre dark comedy whereas, because Baby Driver is a long film you dont really know the genre based on the first few minutes. Watching the short film gave me ideas on how the short films should be structured.
