Echo

Echo, is a short film based on a teenage girl receiving phone calls repeatedly about how her father has had an accident which he is taken to hospital. She does this to scam people so she can get money from them.

The writer James Walker, witnessed this event occurring in real life. The writer tells us that he saw a girl at one place crying about an accident then, saw the same girl at another place doing the same thing. He was so fascinated by it that he talked about it with the director and so the plot is based on a real life event.

Editing in this short film is used very well. In the last phone call scene, because the audience has seen the calls a lot of times already it should kind of feel boring. However, the quick transition between shots kind of emphasis the girls haert and how quick its beating which increases tension. Also, the echoing of her voice repeats the emotional words which she says for e.g. My dads had an accident. Therefore, makes the audience feel emotional. Also, this echoing relates back to the film title too.

Finally, the way the phone call scene is shot, will influence my screenplay. The way it draws emotion is what I will need for my phone call scene in my screenplay.
